Disappointed: K610im x K610i

K610im x K610i

I’ve bought a Sony Ericsson mobile phone model K610im. It is a small and good looking phone that has that famous i-mode capability which is a variation of usual GPRS/WAP. There is no doubt that browsing the internet using it is quick and nice. But I have to say, I am disappointed because I can’t install standard java applications in it .
I-mode phones use Doja, Docomo Java from NTT Docomo, which is different from MIDP. It means that you can’t copy most of the applications available in the Internet to the phone memory or to its memory card to install them, and also, you can’t share them via bluetooth, e-mail and so on.
It is possible to downgrade the K610im to K610i, it’s quite a risky procedure but the phone would run the common JAVA from MIDP, although it would lose its i-mode capability.
I have seen kids spending money to download games to their K610im from the mobile companies’ portals and then being unable to play them because the information about i-mode games is not clear.
If I knew about all the trouble I have when I try to find applications for this NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode phone, I would never have bought it.
