O2 iPhone in Ireland

I don’t have an iPod, nor do I have a MacBook. I don’t intend to have a ‘fashionable’ computer such as the MacBook Air or an iPhone. For starters it is impossible to install third party games or free software in the iPhone. VoIP? You can forget it as well. To complete Apple’s camouflaged dictatorship, it is mandatory to install iTunes.
I repeated several times I am against SIM Lock and I’m happy because O2 provided me with the unlocking codes for all mobile phones I bought from them. It didn’t take long for me to be disappointed with them as a mobile services provider though.
As everybody knows O2 was chosen by Apple to be the exclusive carrier for iPhone in Ireland and I have to say, when I saw the tariffs in their website I was shocked. Irish people have to pay more to have less minutes, less text messages and 1Gb data transfer limit each month when compared to the UK customers. In other European countries, like France and Germany, where O2 tariffs are the same as they are in Ireland, the users have at least unlimited data transfer. Fortunately, according to Pat Phelan there is a way to have an iPhone in Ireland and not get caught by what he calls “Paddy Taxes”.
So, if it’s possible to have the ‘iGadget’ unlocked and not to be tied up to a specific carrier my only issue with this ‘phone’ is the camouflaged dictatorship. I agree that the iPhone concept is nice, but it would be perfect if it was possible to install any software and games we’d like to run on it. I’m afraid the only solution in this case is to buy the true iPhone Anti-Christ.
Don’t think different, think better. 🙂
